  Susan Dabney was born to John and Anna (Harris) Dabney in 1756, probably in Hanover County, Virginia. She married Thomas Harris, who was born in 1758 to James and Mary Harris of Albemarle County. He was a nephew of Christopher Harris and grandson of Major Robert Harris of Albemarle County. Susan and Thomas had eight childern: Anna, for whom Thomas made special provisions in his will; Jarrot, born 1781, married Jane Ramsey; Thomas, married Elizabeth Turk; Betsy, married Bernard B. Maupin; Robert, born about 1777, died in February, 1826; William; Mary Brown (perhaps married to Thomas H. Brown); and Sarah Harrison, married to Mr. Tuck. Thomas’s father bequeathed him 40 acres patented in 1781, 80 acres adjoining land already in Thomas’s possession, 1/4 of a tract of mountain land lent to James’ widow for her lifetime, and 1/12 of the stock, household furniture, and plantation utensils lent to his widow for her lifetime. In 1784, Thomas was one of a group ordered to procession land boundaries iin Fredericksville Parish. In the Albemarle personal property tax lists, Thomas was charged with 1-2 slaves and 3-4 horses during the first 15 years from 1782 to 1814, and 3-7 slaves and 2-7 horses during the next 37 years. Land tax lists have not survived. Thomas was listed in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 U. S. censuses in Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County. Thomas probably died in 1834. His will was signed in June, 1831, and proved in November, 1834. Thomas endeavored to make nearly equal bequests valued at $800 to each of his children.
