- Sarah Carr was born to Major Thomas and Mary (Dabney) Carr November 14, 1714, in New Kent County (later Hanover County, then Louisa County).
She married John Minor, a son of Garrett and Diana (Vivian) Minor of Middlesex County, Virginia, November 14, 1732. He was born June 28/29, 1707. Her father gave the Topping Castle farm on the north bank of the North Anna River in Caroline County to the couple. They had eleven children: John; William, born August 30, 1738; Thomas, born August 5, 1740, married Mary Dabney; Mary, born Mar 7, 1742, died 1818, married Edward Herndon August 15, 1765; Garrett, born March 4, 1744, died June 25, 1799, married Mary O. Terrill, born May 22, 1750, died October 30, 1830; James, born February 18, 1745, died June 9, 1791, married June 29, 1773, Mary Carr, born September 14, 1746, died July 17, 1797; Diana, born February 28, 1747, died March 28, 1748; Dabney, born June 11, 1749, died November 7, 1799, married Ann Anderson Oct 12, 1773; Vivian, married Elizabeth Dick; Elizabeth, born August 3, 1752, died 1786, married Col. James Lewis of Laurel Hill; Peter, born Aug 16, 1754, died 1793, married Hannah Jones of Brunswick County. All were mentioned in his will.
John Minor was an influential and wealthy planter and a Justice of the Peace who lived at Bear Castle in Louisa County, Virginia. In August, 1735, he received a patent for 400 acres in then-Hanover County, later Albemarle County, which he gave to his son, James, who built a house called Gale Hill, where several generations of descendants lived until it burned to the ground in 1930. He died June 23, 1755, in Spotsylvania County. In his will, signed in 1754 and proved in 1755, he left lands in Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, and Culpeper Counties to his children.
